Famous racing yard up for sale

JMH, headed by former BP executive Dr. Jim Hay invested an estimated £4.4 million in purchasing the Uplands Estate in 2005. Uplands Racing, a joint venture between Uplands Acquisitions and JS Moore Racing, was formed, but in July this year trainer Stan Moore confirmed he was moving out of the historic base after a business split with Jim Hay.

Knight Frank and Savills have been instructed on the sale of the 233 acre yard as a whole at a guide price of £4 million, or in three lots. Uplands has been the base for successful trainers including Fred Winter, who trained several Gold Cup winners from there.

It includes a six bedroom Grade II listed Georgian farm house, a trainer’s house, offices, equine swimming pool complex, stabling for 80 horses, three indoor horse walkers, large sand lunge ring, indoor school, two all-weather private gallops, a canter track, schooling grounds, 86 acres of railed turnout paddocks and staff accommodation.

Rupert Sweeting of Knight Frank said: "It’s an historic property that should find a trainer of international repute or be of interest to a stud looking for a stallion or broodmare base."

Richard Binning of Savills added: "The attraction of Uplands is that it really is the complete package and has been developed and expanded to a high standard, ready for someone to move into and hopefully train the next big winner."
