A couple of things to do in Slough

23rd January 2012 18:02:16

If you’re ever at a loose end in Slough town centre, there are a couple of things you could do to pass the time.  You could visit Slough Museum, and if the weather is nice you could also have a walk around Herschel Park.

Slough Museum

Slough Museum was opened in 1986, and recently moved to a new home in Slough Library.  It is a small museum which keeps items from Slough’s history, with a proportion of these being on display at one time.

I visited last week with a friend, and we saw documents about the Slough traffic experiments that took place in the 1950s, a display of posters and ration books from the Second World War, and information about local companies and the Slough Trading Estate.

If you have an interest in a particular aspect of the town’s history, you can search on the museum’s website to see whether they have items that are relevant to your interest.  The website also contains a couple of collections of historical and contemporary photos.

Herschel Park

I hadn't visited Herschel Park before last week, but I’m told that the tree trail and nature reserve are recent additions. It's a nice park for a short walk, and this could be extended by venturing into the nature reserve area.

There are leaflets available that tell you about the different trees in the park, and occasional events such as walks and children’s activities.

We didn’t get the chance to explore the nature reserve area, but plan to do so next time I’m in Slough with some spare time.
