Gilbey’s, Eton

Take a break from shopping in Windsor or visiting the castle and wander across Eton Bridge to this lovely little restaurant. The lunch menu includes roasted heirloom tomato & thyme soup, ricotta & scallion rice paper roll, St Austell Bay mussels, Cornish baby squid and slow-brasied lamb shepherd’s pie.

The Tablespoon Brasserie, Sunningdale

Located in the heart of this leafy village a few minutes’ drive from Ascot racecourse, The Tablespoon has a convivial atmosphere and you will be made warmly welcome by the team who are passionate about creating a friendly dining experience. Imaginative salads include crispy duck and chicken Caesar. There is a good choice of main dishes including Tablespoon burger and pan fried Scottish salmon.

The Vineyard at Stockcross, Newbury

If you want to feel pampered head five minutes out of Newbury to the Vineyard at Stockcross. Built as an 18th century hunting lodge, it’s now a glamorous hotel with an impressive private art collection and beautiful grounds. Dishes include salmon tartar, veal sweetbread, lamb fillet, herb risotto and a range of mouth-watering desserts.

The Forbury Hotel, Reading

Described by the Evening Standard as ‘the sexiest townhouse hotel’ the Cerise restaurant is a popular place to go for lunch with girl friends. Dishes include chicken liver pate, white crab salad, seared pork fillet, pan-seared bream and beetroot and butternut squash risotto.

Boulters Restaurant, Maidenhead

A great place to eat with a stunning view, relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices. You have the choice of eating in The Riverside Brasserie which serves beautifully-presented dainty portions of modern British cuisine or the Terrace Bar which serves rustic pub classics with a modern twist. Ask for a window table to get the full benefit of the glorious location.

The Swan, Pangbourne

Perfect for a lazy summer lunch, The Swan has a beautiful terrace overlooking the Thames. In less clement weather you can sit inside and admire the charming interior of this 17th century building with beams and open fireplaces. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner from 10am, seven days a week, The Swan aims to accommodate everybody, whether you are looking for a bar snack and drink, or a three course meal with tea and coffee.

The Bear, Hungerford

Combine a visit to this pretty town or nearby Marlborough with lunch in one of the oldest inns in England. Refurbished at the end of 2013, The Bear has lots of character and lovely landscaped gardens. The food offers something for everyone, good for groups with diverse tastes and dietary requirements.
