If you’re planning a visit to Buckinghamshire, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to quirky places to stay…

Wendover Windmill

The Windmill was built in the nineteenth century and its octagonal shaped building can sleep up to ten people and can be rented for weeks or weekends. Reaching five stories, the Windmill provides picturesque views of Wendover, a town bursting with historic properties, a variety of shops and quaint pubs.

Badger’s Bower, Chiltern Yurt Retreat

This handmade tabernacle built at the edge of a forest provides a perfect retreat. The tabernacle, a reference to Hebrew texts that means the meeting place of God, boasts two grand church-like doors, a double-ended bath, a hammock, a fire bowl to cook your own stew and stunning views of the surrounding private woodlands.

Kingfisher Yurt, Chiltern Yurt Retreat

Located at the same site as Badger’s Bower is Kingfisher Yurt, which is completely crafted and handmade by owners Karen and David. Cosy up alongside the wood burning stove or enjoy the views outside to the woodland. The clear roof makes this yurt a perfect place for those who love a relaxing evening gazing up to the stars.

The Nags Head

Fancy staying in a 15th century inn that used to be the local of a certain Roald Dahl? Then the Nags Head might just be the place for you. Not only was it featured in Countryfile’s ‘Top 55 cosiest pubs in Britain’, the refurbished rooms are individually designed and things like those original wood beams only further cement that quirky feel.

London Road, Little Kingshill, Great Missenden, HP16 0DG

The Crown Inn

This Amersham establishment might be a modern dining pub but with it’s timber framed buildings and inglenook fireplaces, it’s still full of quirks. Some of the 38 bedrooms were planned by designer Ilse Crawford and the Inn was even a filming location for Four Weddings and a Funeral. The blend of rustic and modern chic make The Crown Inn an alternative yet very pleasant place to stay.

16 High Street, Amersham, HP7 0DH

Five Arrows Hotel

The rooms at this boutique hotel in Waddesdon have been recently refurbished with interiors designed to give a stylish country house feel and are all named after a Rothschild wine. As well as all the usual extras you’d expect from any good hotel, Five Arrows include tickets to the grounds of Waddesdon Manor during seasonal openings.

Stoke Place

This stunning country house lies in over 20 acres of parkland and houses 39 unique bedrooms. Built back in 1690, this Queen Anne Mansion house blends classic style and modernness; catering for weddings, romantic weekend breaks and conferences.
