John Lewis at home Newbury will welcome shoppers on April 20, and be supporting local charities.

The store has announced the first three community groups it will support as part of its charitable giving scheme, Community Matters. Every three months, the Community Matters programme enables John Lewis at home Newbury to split 3,000 between three local community groups.

They will be:

  • Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust

  • Living Paintings

  • The Newbury Community Resource Centre

Customers will be directly involved in deciding how funds are allocated, by using a token to vote for the charity they would like to support. The share of the 3,000 available to the good causes will be proportionate to the customer votes, meaning an organisation with 31% of the vote would receive a 930 donation.

Each customer will receive one token per transaction and will be able to follow how much of the vote each organisation receives over the three months. Organisations eligible for Community Matters will include charities, schools and community groups.

Dominic Joyce, branch manager at John Lewis at home Newbury (pictured), said: We are so pleased to be able to support these three local causes and the incredible contribution they make to the local area and its residents. My Partners (staff) and I are all very much looking forward to becoming part of the local community and as a business, we hope to be able to make a real difference.

  • Newbury & District Cancer Care Trust offers help to patients and families living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
