QUEEN AND PRINCE PHILIP TO VISIT

17:36 03 April 2012

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are to meet local residents at a three-county summer garden party to mark her Diamond Jubilee.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are to meet local residents from at a three-county summer garden party to mark her Diamond Jubilee.

The event will take place near Henley-on-Thames on 25 June, and is being jointly organised by the Lord Lieutenants of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

A significant proportion of the 4,000 guests at the garden party will be selected by a public ballot which will take place in May. Residents who are successful in the ballot will join representatives of voluntary organisations and charities, together with civic, community and business leaders.

The event is part of a series of regional visits throughout the UK by The Queen and The Duke which give Her Majesty the opportunity to express her thanks to people throughout the country for their continued support and loyalty.

Part of the occasion will be a river pageant themed around the Thames which forms a common bond between the three counties.

Closely associated with the event will be a major Jubilee Fund raising appeal for the four Community Foundation charities in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Milton Keynes.

A statement issued by Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, and the Hon Mrs Mary Bayliss, Lord-Lieutenant for Berkshire, said: "We are deeply honoured that The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend a garden party that will be a celebration of life in the three counties and the part that The Queen has played over the last 60 years. We are planning a really wonderful event to mark this remarkable anniversary.

"In addition, the fund-raising appeal for the Community Foundation charities will create a lasting legacy of The Queens Diamond Jubilee, benefiting small community organisations across the three counties long into the future."

More information about how to take part in the public ballot to attend the garden party will be released later this month. Further details about the garden party, including the venue, will be announced in due course.
